WHAT WE DON’T KNOW ABOUT WORSHIP AND THE GIFTS OF THE HOLY SPIRIT

Did you know that it is the will of God that every believer is given the manifestation of the nine gifts of the Spirit as He wills? YES! To every believer!  (1 Corinthians 12:7-11)

The problem is this: We don’t know because we were not taught. And what we don’t know, surely we won’t practice. This lack of knowledge about these Biblical truths causes us to miss out on experiencing the fullness of who God is and what He can do in us and through us. Ignorance is never an excuse when all this time we have the Scriptures revealing to us everything we need to know about God.

There are so many different levels of worship but sadly many people are just worshipping God on the same track because their expansion of who God is is so limited.  We are not aware that the Holy Spirit uses the gifts of the Holy Spirit to take us into a whole new realm of spiritual things that we know nothing about.

So, here are some important truths that we as Christians need to know about worship and the gifts of the Holy Spirit that should excite us to go deeper and deeper with our relationship with God.

The Gifts are Free, the Fruit is Not

The gifts of the Spirit are FREE, that’s why it’s called GIFTS.

Meanwhile, the FRUIT of the Spirit (Galatians 5:22)  is not free, because there’s a process that we have to go through to see it develop in our lives, such as planting the seed and nurturing the seed until it brings forth a harvest. In other words, the  fruit will cost us, while the gifts are freely given to us.

Yet though the gifts are free, have we ever asked the Holy Spirit to reveal these gifts to us? We have to remember that it is the Spirit who decides how to give them to us at different times, but there’s one thing we must do: WE MUST ASK. We can move in the gifts of the Holy Spirit but we need to ask for it. We must earnestly desire the gifts.

As wonderful as that is, we also have to know that the Holy Spirit is a gentleman. He will never force us and He will never dominate us. This is why the Bible says “You have not because you ask not.”  (James 4:2-3)

Most of us, when we ask something from God, we ask amiss because we’re always asking for what we want. But what about what God wants? We need to ask God what it is that He desires.

The Primary Purpose of the Gifts is Worship

The first and primary purpose of the nine gifts of the Spirit is to aid us in worship and yet many of how don’t know it because it is never taught. But the Scriptures clearly explains it.

The Holy Spirit wants to use different gifts of the Spirit in our worship because He wants to take us into different realms of the spirit – of glorifying the Father, of glorifying the Son and revealing them to us.

It is through the gifts of the Holy Spirit that worship becomes a knowing experience, a doing experience, and a speaking experience. Instead of us just having an emotional experience, God uses the gifts to give us the knowledge that reveals things about who God is. This is why we must earnestly and eagerly desire these gifts. If we want to go deeper into our worship of God, we need the gifts of the Holy Spirit. God is seeking true worshippers, who will worship Him in spirit and in truth. (John 4:23-24) It’s time we get serious with our worship, desire and receive the gifts, use them in worship, and discover greater and deeper realities of who God really is.
