Associate Pastor

Elder Virgil Meares

Elder Virgil Meares has served as Associate Pastor of Evangel Cathedral since 1968. His responsibilities have included: staff administrator, worship leader, preaching, teaching classes, counseling, overseer of home fellowship meetings and trainer for ministry volunteers. For many years, he led the 6:00 am daily weekday prayer. He performed hospital visitations and funeral eulogies; administered the sacraments of water baptism and the Eucharist; and officiated weddings and children dedications.
He played an important role in the construction and supervision of Evangel Temple (Washington, D.C.) in 1972 and the Evangel Cathedral (Upper Marlboro, MD) in 1990. In addition to his many roles at Evangel, he has been afforded opportunities to preach in churches throughout the U.S. and Europe. He has conducted citywide crusades in Jamaica and Nigeria, West Africa. Pastor Virgil’s first love in ministry is conducting healing services– seeing the sick healed and made whole.
Elder Virgil is married to Dr. Jannie Meares, a co-laborer in ministry. They have three adult children, Chris, Brad and Julie and four grandchildren, Christian, Ella, David and Sophie.
