“23 But the hour is coming, and now is, when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth; for the Father is seeking such to worship Him. 24 God is Spirit, and those who worship Him must worship in spirit and truth.” –John 4:23-24
At the start of this year, God told us powerful things. First, we have stepped into a new season with God. We are now in a new season, a new spiritual season. God is showing us that there are people who are not willing to believe who He is. But some people are doing eternal things, and these people will be with the mighty men of God.
What does believing mean in the mind of God? As a worshiper, we need to know what believing means. James 2:20-24 says:
“But do you want to know, O foolish man, that faith without works is dead? 21 Was not Abraham our father justified by works when he offered Isaac his son on the altar? 22 Do you see that faith was working together with his works, and by works faith was made perfect? 23 And the Scripture was fulfilled which says, “Abraham believed God, and it was accounted to him for righteousness.” And he was called the friend of God. 24 You see then that a man is justified by works, and not by faith only.”
Faith was working together with his works. And by works, faith was made perfect. The Scripture also says, “Abraham believed God, and it was accounted to him for righteousness (Romans 4:3).” Abraham was also called a friend of God. This shows that a man is justified by works and not by faith only.
We can see how God moved in the life of Abraham. Though he was not perfect, he followed God’s commands. He left his home. He had to wait for a son, and then God tested him by making Isaac an offering. Until the end of his life, Abraham was an example of true worship to God. He followed God’s commands even if they didn’t make sense to him. His obedience also affected those who were with him — his wife, son, and servants. Even these people saw the rewards of being a true worshiper of God.
A Higher Level
We’re all servants of God, but Abraham went to a higher level. He was called a friend of God. The Bible also says “that God is no respecter of persons (Acts 10:34 KJV).” This means that whatever someone has done, they eventually get what they deserve.
But, do we want to be called a friend of God? We have to do something with what we believe. When you’re a worshiper, you are also a believer. And a believer is a doer of God’s Word. Faith without works is dead (James 2:26). God is telling us kindly that He wants to do great things with our own faith. This is what we’re at now. We are believers, but what we do with that belief is what God will look at.
Think of this picture: God sits on His throne and looks down at our lives. He looks at our hearts and our lives, and He sees our spirits. God is saying to us, “I want you to become a true worshiper. A true worshiper is somebody who believes in who I am. And when they believe who I am, that’s when they’ll do something with what they believe. That is what I’m looking for. I’m looking for people who are doing things because those are the people I can use. I’m looking for people who truly worship me.”
We worship God by believing in who He is. We show that we believe God when we are doers of what we believe. Then, God will call us His friend.
What Does God Want Us to Do?
“What does it profit, my brethren, if someone says he has faith but does not have works? Can faith save him?”— James 2:14
What does God want us to do to become true worshipers?
In those days, the law and the prophets were their Bible. So, a person before worships the God of their fathers. They believe all things that are written in the Scriptures. But, more than just soaking up the knowledge, they do everything written in it. This is what was considered worship.
This kind of worship is more than just music, singing, and emotions offered up to God. True worship is done. True worship is action.
God will use true worshipers to bring Heaven on Earth. God wants to use us, but God can only use the people who are doing His Word. Worship is in the mind of God. This way, we will become friends of God.
Revival
When we bring Heaven on Earth, that is when we have a revival. In the Lord’s Prayer (Matthew 6:9-13), there’s a revelation that God gives for us to have a revival. In the part that says, “Give us today our daily bread (v. 11),” He is talking about the Word of God. When we understand that God wants these things that are happening in Heaven to happen on Earth, the only way that this can happen is through fulfilling God’s Word.
God is telling us to come to Him and to ask Him to give us a Word for this day daily, each day, every day. We have to feed on the Word of God just like we feed our bodies if we want our spirits to be alive. “Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God (Matthew 4:4).” When we feed on God’s Word, Heaven will show up for us. Understanding, following, and doing God’s Word will lead us to the revival we’ve been waiting for.
