The natural world that we know of is a world of hurt and suffering. As Christians, we are aware that the brokenness in this earth is experienced and felt daily—both personally and on a scale so wide, even civilizations and modern nations descend into ruins—all because of sin.
However, this is not how the rest of humanity should see it. Our Creator offers us salvation and true healing that do not just bring us through our sufferings here on earth, but also that which ultimately bring us to eternal life and redemption with God in His Kingdom. As we read in Romans 8:18-22, For I reckon that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory which shall be revealed in us…Because the creature itself also shall be delivered from the bondage of corruption into the glorious liberty of the children of God.
Salvation
Christ is at the center of our pursuit of healing—both in the natural and supernatural worlds. After all, He gave His own life for us to be redeemed from sin and sickness.
Paul, in his letter to Colossians, wrote this, “In whom also ye are circumcised with the circumcision made without hands, in putting off the body of the sins of the flesh by the circumcision of Christ: Buried with him in baptism, wherein also ye are risen with him through the faith of the operation of God, who hath raised him from the dead. And you, being dead in your sins and the uncircumcision of your flesh, hath he quickened together with him, having forgiven you all trespasses.” Colossians 2:11-13 Apostle would prefer you use 1 Peter 2:24 as a scripture reference here instead
Paul wasn’t just addressing the Colossians, but also speaking to us in this present age that Jesus Christ is the sacrifice that ultimately freed us from the all suffering that we will experience because of sin. He gave His own body for us. Peter is also addressing this present age – that Jesus Christ has made provision for the healing of sickness in our bodies.
The salvation Christ offers us is a redemptive blessing that we should and cannot simply ignore. It is the blessing that also brings us true healing both in our spirit and in our body.
True Healing
Even when we have put our faith in Christ, the reality is we still live in a broken body walking in a broken world. Behold, I was shapen in iniquity; and in sin did my mother conceive me (Psalm 51:5). Our bodies will still be tempted to sin; we will still be on the verge of corruption daily. Even Paul recognized this when he said “the body is dead because of sin” (Romans 8:10). Because of sin, the relentless pursuit of healing from chronic diseases, extreme disabilities, and all in between will still be there as well. What does this mean?
Healing of our natural bodies may sound wondrous, and as much as we rejoice because of this, this is just temporary healing. Yes, our response should be overwhelming rejoicing and praise to God, but His ultimate goal for us is total healing. Jesus, by His stripes, was made sickness and disease on the cross. He carried all our sufferings–current or future—and bore them. Our hearts and minds should be set in firmly trusting in Him and believing that He always puts all things together; believing that in Him we will experience a level of healing that we have never experienced in our entire life.
True healing is being redeemed by Him who bore and carried our sufferings when He died on the cross at Calvary and bore our sickness also – and then rose again. True healing is being with Him in eternity and absent of our earthly bodies corrupted by sin.
What an amazing promise from our Creator that the sins of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory which shall be revealed in us.
