Knowing Jesus Makes All the Difference

When Jesus entered Jerusalem, the whole city was stirred and asked, “Who is this?” Matthew 21:10

The question “Who is Jesus?” may have a simple answer to those who do not genuinely seek the right answer, but it holds heavier weight and demands a perspicuous response to those who truly seek Him. The Scripture does not run out of verses to address the query, and they all point to an all-embracing truth: Jesus Christ is our Lord and Savior.

Who is Jesus

Jesus is the Son of God (Luke 22:70). He is equal in authority as the Father (Matthew 28:18). This may sound too radical to the ears of those just beginning to know Him, but indeed this is the radical truth. Jesus did not only claim that He is the Son of God and He is equal with the Father, but His sinless life also backed this up with the way He lived while He was on the earth among us. We read in Hebrews 4:15, 2 Corinthians 5:21, and 1 Peter 2:22 that He has been tempted in all things as we are, yet He was without sin.

Jesus is the only way to God (John 14:6), He is our Lord and Savior, and He has the power to save us sinners so we can have eternal life with Him in heaven. As we groan for help to cope with the current troubles of our world, these proclamations are ever more forceful in telling us that we need to come to Jesus because He is the only way to true salvation, not only from our sins but also from the chaos that we’re suffering.

What did Jesus come to do

Jesus Christ did not come only to introduce himself to this earth, He was the Word who became flesh and dwelt among us (John 1:14). He came to give life and abundance (John 10:10); to seek and to save that which was lost (Luke 19:10); to take away the sins of the world (John 1:29); to save sinners (1 Timothy 1:15); to take away sin (1 John 3:5); to destroy the works of the devil (1 John 3:8); to be our life, live as us, and live in us (1 John 5:11-12).

These statements shape an over-arching veracity that Jesus, with His loving mercy and grace, came specifically to give us hope and everlasting joy with Him in heaven. If this does not give us a sense of joy and fulfillment, nothing ever can.

What should we do

Genuinely knowing Christ and knowing about Him are different in more ways than we can imagine. To truly know Christ is to greatly desire Him and to look unto Him steadfastly. He is calling us to lay aside every weight and run with endurance the race that is set before us. Knowing Jesus and looking unto Him also means that we set our sight to the eternal joy He has prepared for us as He sits at the right hand of the throne of God.

This season should not be wasted dwelling on the knowledge of despair, fear, and disappointment. Jesus is the reason for this season, and the only response is to come to Him and get to know Him even more.

Taste and see that the Lord is good until you become too full of Him that when you burp, it’s Jesus.
